The Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to all baptised Catholics in Year 9 and above, who have received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.  It is the next step in the faith journey of our young people.

Preparation classes begin in the middle of March.

Candidates follow a Catechetical Preparation Course entitled ‘You Will Receive Power’  based on Acts 1:8 ‘You will receive Power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses’

The course runs for eight weeks.  Each session aims to speak about  a mystery of our faith while focussing on an aspect of the Holy Spirit:

The Spirit of Love speaks of the truth of God’s eternal, unchanging love.  We were created by that love and for that love.

The Spirit of Mercy explains the mystery of sin, that humanity has fallen from God and that life is no longer paradise.  It speaks of salvation in Jesus Christ, who came to save us from our sins.

The Spirit of Freedom is concerned with God’s faithfulness to His people, that He sent Jesus to bring about a new and everlasting covenant, which we enter through baptism.

The Spirit of Faith is an invitation to an encounter with Jesus Christ who, b our faith, makes these truths living realities in our lives.

The Spirit of Power speaks about the transforming power of the Spirit and the gifts by which He is manifested in our lives.

The Spirit of Life describes the road to discipleship.  It explains what will characterise our faith if we desire to remain close to Jesus.

The Spirit of Witness is an encouragement to express our faith and to share our faith with other, according to Christ’s common

The Spirit of Prayer explains the vitality and sustenance we receive through maining our relationship with Jesus Christ in prayer.

Bishop Terence Patrick Drainey celebrates the Sacrament of Confirmation May/June each year.
