Outside of the classroom, reading is just as important for personal and cognitive development. Studies show it:
- Improves vocab (up to 2 years)
- Increases brain matter
- Reduces stress (more than music or a cup of tea)
- Increase empathy (esp. fiction)
As such, we offer a range of ways pupils can read independently:
- The main library and mobile book trolley – open for borrowing every day
- Teachers reading posters with recommendations and current reads of staff
- Dining Hall news articles with current news updates and magazines
- Book of the Month recommendations circulated from staff and pupils
- Mini classroom libraries
- Book Buzz event for year 7s
- Reading Club
- Events for key reading dates like World Book Day and National Storytelling Week
