Year 6 Transition to St Patrick’s
Moving from primary to secondary school is an exciting step, but we know it can also feel daunting for families. At St Patrick’s, we are committed to making this transition as smooth and welcoming as possible through a carefully planned programme of support for our new pupils. Below is an overview of some key aspects of our transition offer.
Key Dates
23rd June — Year 6 Welcome Evening (5:30–6:30pm)
Motif8 will be available from 4pm for families wishing to view or order school uniform.
Monday 29th & Tuesday 30th June — Year 6 Transition Days
Pupils should arrive by 8:25am on both days. They will be dismissed at 2:35pm.
Enhanced Transition
Some pupils may be selected by their primary school for additional transition support, which will take place during the final half-term of the summer.
In addition, Stockton Council is offering an Enhanced Transition session ( Be Kind to Your Mind) at St Patrick’s Catholic College on Tuesday 25th August, 9:00am until 3:00pm. This is open to any pupils who would benefit.
Information for Current Year 5 Families
If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they will start secondary school in September 2027.
The local authority will send out letters explaining how to apply for a secondary school place for September 2026. If you do not receive this letter by 18 September 2026, please contact the School Admissions Team.
Applications must be submitted using the local authority’s common application form. The deadline for applications is Friday 30th October 2026.
What to Expect Throughout the Year
Autumn & Winter Terms — Our headteacher, transition lead and pupil engagement officer will visit our primary feeder schools to meet staff and pupils.
Spring Term — In March 2027, Year 6 pupils will receive confirmation from the local authority of their allocated secondary school place.
Summer Term — Our transition lead and pastoral team, who will be supporting Year 7, will visit primary schools to meet pupils and Year 6 teachers. We will also talk through our upcoming taster days. Former pupils will accompany us to share their experiences and help answer questions.
Some families may be offered an enhanced transition package — we will contact you directly if this applies to your child.
Further updates about the 2026 transition process will be shared in due course. In the meantime, please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
